Vue du grand Carré du Jardin des Tuileries

Say it with a bench

Every year, millions of visitors stroll the Tuileries Garden. Its benches have witnessed many stories and encounters. With the help of a crowdfunding campaign, the Louvre is now embarking on a project aiming to restore and recreate the Tuileries Garden’s historical benches in order to improve visitor experience and provide more seating.

These cast-iron benches, installed in the 19th century throughout the garden’s groves, green rooms and terraces, have come to symbolise the Parisian art de vivre. There are two types of benches: the first one-sided and rectilinear, designed to invite contemplation, and the second double-sided with lion-paw feet, well suited to dialogue and exchange. The Louvre is calling on a French foundry and its traditional expertise to create authentic new copies of these benches based on the existing models.

From 4 December 2024, Tuileries Garden lovers will be able to bring their personal or collective support to the project and sponsor the 165 benches.

You can donate an amount of your choosing to help with the restoration of five ‘donor benches’, or sponsor a bench in your own or a loved one’s name if you make a €5,000 donation. With this contribution, you are directly taking part in the preservation and improvement of a garden more than four centuries old in the heart of Paris.
